a majority of voters there think George W. Bush did a better job with Katrina than Obama's done dealing with the spill.Of course, some of the commenters on the poll say that it shows people in Louisiana are racist and still others say "southerners are stupid anyway."
50% of voters in the state, even including 31% of Democrats, give Bush higher marks on that question compared to 35% who pick Obama.
Overall only 32% of Louisianans approve of how Obama has handled the spill to 62% who disapprove. 34% of those polled say they approved of how Bush dealt with Katrina to 58% who disapproved.
Don't you love that? That Beverly Hillbillies, Dukes of Hazzard stereotyping crap? This is one bigotry that's still quite widespread in the US. It's no wonder that "rednecks" are the only ones people can openly make "politically incorrect" statements about anymore.
Anytime there is a disaster in our beloved south, the national news media will go out of their way to find the biggest, dumb redneck and his skanky wife to interview. No wonder the rest of the nation has us stereotyped!!ReplyDelete
Interseting stats on LA. You can bet they won't forget come election time! Mentally I keep seeing that billboard with a picture of Bush on it and the caption "Do You Miss Me Yet"!!!
Dan, I can give you my opinion as to why the poll shakes out the way it does, from a Louisianian's perspective.ReplyDelete
During Katrina, Bush was not necessarily seen as handling the situation well. But, our Governor Blanco was just so completely at a loss...and truly LOST! By comparison, Bush was seen as superior. And when he sent General Honore' in to take charge, his stock went way up.
In this oil leak thing, our Governor Jindal (and I am not much a fan of Bobby) has shown some fortitude, and smarts, whereas the ObozO administration has come off as the dufuses in this deal.
Perception is reality. When the citizens of Louisiana compare Fed to State in both situations, the Fed definitely comes off looking worse in this situation.
Has the EPA approved that giant oil skimmer yet?ReplyDelete
I'm SO with you on the southern stereotyping. I don't have a southern accent, but my Mom's side of the family were all Georgia born and bred (I was born in Jawja, too). My Mom never lost her drawl and was heavily criticized for it, if not outright discriminated against. I have more tales in this space, too, and not just about family. It's disgraceful.ReplyDelete
Speaking of disgraceful... there's that Obama guy again.
